For the 3rd time the Annual K-Swiss Ironman 70.3 Branson returns to the live music capitol of the world for the 2012 triathlete contest. It is one of 59 qualifying events for the 2013 Ironman World Championship 70.3 in Clearwater, Floria. Professional athletes will be competing for a $25,000 prize purse.
An Ironman 70.3, also known as a Half Ironman, is one of a series of middle-distance triathlon races organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC). The “70.3” refers to the total distance in miles (113.0 km) covered in the race, consisting of a 1.2-mile (1.9 km) swim, a 56-mile (90 km) bike ride, and a 13.1-mile (21.1 km) run. Each distance of the swim, bike, and run segments are half the distances of those segments found in an Ironman triathlon. The Ironman 70.3 series culminates each year with a World Championship competition, of which competitors qualify for during the 70.3 series in the 12 months prior to the championship race. In addition to the World Championship race, Ironman 70.3 championship competitions are also held for the European, Asia-Pacific, and Latin America regions.
The Branson Ironman 70.3 course features:
- A 1.2-mile swim in Table Rock Lake beginning at 7:00 am at Moonshine Beach (near the Chateau on the Lake, the host hotel)
- 56-mile bike race through the rolling hills of the Ozark Mountains (Moonshine Beach is the transition area & the race ends at the Branson Landing)
- 13.1-mile run (this part is spectator-friendly, it’s three laps at the Branson Landing); race ends at 3:30 pm at the Branson Landing Water & Fire Show
Following the race, there will be an IronMan Block Party Concert at the Branson Landing – featuring the Nashvegas Allstars, with other activities to be announced. In 2011, activities included an IronMan Block Party at the Branson Landing featuring Chain Reaction – A Tribute To Journey, the IronMan Expo at the Chateau on the Lake for official IronMan logo athletic wear & gear and a Post-race party & awards ceremony at Ernie Biggs at the Branson Landing.
